Geographical Information System Analyst
GRNET holds a key role in implementing Greece’s digital transformation goals (gov.gr), as well as developing and promoting network and computing technologies and applications for the academic and scientific community.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Geographical Information System (GIS) Analyst to join our team in supporting the digital transformation of the public sector. As a GIS Analyst, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining geographic information systems to support the needs of public administration bodies, high-level executives, managerial staff, and citizens.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain GIS databases, data models, and applications that support the needs of public administration bodies
- Analyze and process geographic data to support planning, management, and decision-making activities in the public sector
- Design and implement data visualization and reporting tools to support the dissemination of geographic information to stakeholders
- Provide technical support and training to public sector staff in the use of GIS tools and applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate GIS data and systems with other information systems and technologies used in the public sector
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in the GIS field, and recommend new tools and solutions to meet the evolving needs of the public sector
Requirements
- University Diploma (3-5 year) or Bachelor's or Master's degree in geography, geoinformatics, computer science, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in GIS analysis and system development
- Strong proficiency in GIS software and programming languages such as ArcGIS, QGIS, OsGeo software stack, Python, and SQL
- Ability to analyze and process large and complex geographic datasets
- Knowledge of data management and database design principles
- Experience with geospatial data formats and data sources, such as Esri shapefiles, GeoTIFF, GeoPackage, OGC standards and OpenStreetMap
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Passion for using technology to support public sector initiatives and improve outcomes for citizens
