Job Description
GRNET holds a key role in implementing Greece’s digital transformation goals (gov.gr), as well as developing and promoting network and computing technologies and applications for the academic and scientific community.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Geographical Information System (GIS) Designer with a background in cloud computing and agile methodologies to join our dynamic and innovative team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in designing and implementing cloud-based GIS solutions for our users of the offered services.
Responsibilities:
- Work with stakeholders to understand their GIS requirements and design solutions that meet their needs
- Design and implement cloud-based GIS systems, including data storage, processing, and visualization
- Collaborate with the development team to ensure that GIS solutions are integrated with other systems and platforms
- Work with Agile methodologies to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members
• Continuously evaluate and improve existing GIS solutions to ensure they are up-to-date and effective
Requirements
Requirements:
- University Diploma (3+ year) or Bachelor's degree in Geography, Computer Science, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in GIS design and implementation, with a focus on cloud computing
- Strong experience with cloud platforms, including AWS and Azure
- Knowledge of GIS software, such as ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, OsGeo software stack and Google Earth Engine
- Proficient in Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into non-technical language
Desired Skills:
- Experience with cloud computing infrastructure, including virtualization and containers
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python and SQL
- Experience with automation and scripting in a cloud environment
- Familiarity with load balancing and service meshes
- Experience with GitOps
• Understanding of DevOps principles and practices
