About Signal Ocean: Signal Ocean is the technology arm of the Signal Group. The team: The hiring team oversees the data, models, and relevant backend infrastructure responsible for modeling the global shipping market, monitoring movements, and commodity trades. The role is integral to this process, centered on the development of production-ready online NLP models designed to understand and interpret vital information within a variety of shipping reports.
About the role: We are seeking a self-driven and inquisitive Senior Data Scientist, passionate about science, engineering, and data to develop cutting-edge NLP models and algorithms for the maritime industry at our Athens location.
Signal’s Data Scientists work closely with engineering, data, product and business analysis professionals. We develop robust, scalable data science models, tools that provide insights to the highly entrepreneurial domains of shipping and commodities trading.

What you will do in this role:
- Develop and enhance advanced NLP models and algorithms for the maritime industry.
- Continuously iterate on our solutions to identify areas of improvements and implement changes.
- Collaborate within our cross-functional team to understand all business and technological aspects of the problem.
- Participate in the research and development of innovative data science methods.
- Stay current with industry trends and state-of-the-art AI techniques.
- Share insights and findings with team members and contribute to knowledge sharing.
- Stay curious and engaged, continuously learning, and adding value to the company.
Requirements
What you bring to the team:
- Master's degree in a relevant field. PhD is a plus.
- At least 3 years of proven experience in developing advanced models and algorithms.
- Proficiency in Python, strong skills working with algorithms and ML/AI techniques. NLP is a plus.
- An understanding of industry trends and the latest AI techniques.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
